At Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California, film magic is a lot more than CGI. The compound presently experienced 3 Foley stages—buildings where seem effects are created—but in October they developed a fourth, and it’s a doozy: a facility crafted from the ground up not only to be acoustically perfect, but to have all the design characteristics wanted for Foley artist John Roesch and his crew to follow their craft. More than a nearly 40-year occupation, Roesch has worked on every thing from E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark to Interstellar and Frozen. He gave us a tour of the new Foley stage, and gave us some insight into just one of the rarest—and coolest—jobs in exhibit small business.
