Hey! Pikmin, the 2D platforming portable take on the much-respected series, is heading to the 3DS in July. Of course some have wondered about its status within the series, though the name and style has always implied it’s a portable spin-off as opposed to ‘Pikmin 4’. That impression has only been solidified by the news of the game’s primary developer, which emerged in an Australian Classification record.
The core developer is Arzest, an independent studio that’s done a fair bit of business with Nintendo. It did some work on StreetPass games, and in recent years is well-known for Yoshi’s New Island and the 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games; neither title is particularly bad, nor are they widely considered to be top of class on the portable.
It’ll be interesting to see how this one turns out, while those a little unsure and still hoping for a ‘main’ Pikmin title on Switch can perhaps be a little reassured.
Thanks to all that sent this in.
